Review for Book I of the Magnolia Beach series, by Kimberly Lang

Product Details

Something to Prove, had me from the first line of the book, which set the tone for its entirety. Kimberly Lang has spun a charming story that makes you want to pack your bags and move to Magnolia Beach. Helena Wheeler, a sassy, smart, independent former resident of this small, quaint beach town finds herself fighting the past when she returns home to help her grandmother. All her previous teen desires are served up on a silver platter, in the form of Ryan Tanner, the handsome town Mayor. The former bad girl, now a success story, owns her own business, but can she find success in a small town that can’t forget the past? You won’t be disappointed in this funny, well told, heartwarming  tale. I give it 5 stars.

Review of The White Door

The White Door is one of the first books I ever reviewed on Amazon or anywhere else. For all the years I have read books as a reader, I had no idea how important my opinion was, and now that I have become a writer, it pains me that this review was zapped by Amazon. Somehow they think that I know the writer of this book, and I absolutely do not! I found the book because I saw it on a post from Twitter. After seeing it repeatedly, I read the blurb and downloaded it. I loved the book so much, that I told the writer so on her Twitter account, and I even told my hubby to read it. He did and posted a review. That is the moment they zapped my review. It is unfair, since we both read the book and placed a fair opinion of the story, but my friend suggested it may be because we placed it from the same internet IP address. I’m not sure about how it all works, but they have also ditched my review of Tonya Royston’s first trilogy and a review of our very own, Daisy Dukes and Cowboy Boots, from a reader that we do actually know, but would have reviewed it honestly. That being said, I wanted to post my review here.

Posted to Goodreads: This book appealed to me in so many ways. But the heroine is so down to earth and the plot so mysterious, that it keeps you wondering where the tale was forged. Wicca edged and steeped in mystery, this is a great read to fuel your thoughts on the what if. I look forward to more stories by J. Lahoud.

I will also add that I loved the setting that beckons to Julia. My sister, who passed away two years ago last month, said she visited Stonehenge and had a moment of ethereal movement. She burst into tears and said she could describe it in no other way, than that she had come home. She wanted her ashes spread there, and I am in the process of working with the park to see if this could still be done.

Gypsy Magic is an excellent YA novel!

I did not plan on finishing the book on my flight, but on the way home from Greece, it was so easy to breeze through. Tonya Royston has done it again! I’m not usually a YA reader but after reading her Sunset Trilogy, I was very interested to see what she would write next. I dove in and bought all three books of the second Trilogy without even reading the blurb. I like surprises and in this east coast town of Sedgwick, there are a lot of twists and turns. Without revealing the details and spoiling any of the fun, I give it 5 stars. It reads like a movie for all ages. The story is fantastic and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Keep your eye on this author. Everything she writes is like book candy.

A review of Madge H. Gressley’s, Inescapable

Inescapable is a fast paced romance that doesn’t play by the rules. I like this! Growing up reading romance, I am familiar with the usual formula expected by most publishers. Man meets woman, falls helplessly in love, though some conflict happens, all is roses at the end. This intriguing story throws the reader for a curve ball just when you think you know what will happen next…and I will tell you there is not a rose at the end. As the title says, this book is just the beginning of this tale of human trafficking based in Lima, Peru. I read this almost 300pg novel on my flight to Greece, and didn’t want to put it down. A pleasure to read!

Sexy!

New York Minute, by Melinda Dozier, is a story about an accountant who wants to be something more than ordinary. She turns on the sex appeal at a wedding and ramps up the excitement in her life when she encounters too hot and sexy, Diego. When she bends her own structured persona to fulfill her heart’s desire, she gets more than she plans and spends many pages delving into blissful sex and exploring her inner tigress. Melinda Dozier goes all out sexy in this steamy romance about a girl next door meets super hot musician.

Gemini; The Sign Behind The Crime: Book 1, By Ronnie Allen (Review by Minette Lauren)

Gemini is a great suspense thriller engaging the talents of a clairvoyant forensic psychiatrist, Dr. John Trenton, who has quite an ego. I love books where the characters feel real, and this book offers a lot of personalities to wonder about. The doctor walks the reader through several gripping therapy sessions to peel back the layers of this psychological suspense. This isn’t my typical read, but I was fascinated by the idea of a psychiatrist who spoke of auras, astrology, and prophetic dreams. He also looks to his spirit guide for direction in his search to heal. There is a lot going on in this story, so be prepared to sit down and read it when you have time. Keeping track of the details is a must. I can’t believe this is Ronnie Allen’s first novel! What a great first and I look forward to more.

Lost Witness: Laura Elvebak

I listened to this great mystery novel on Audible. Another entertaining novel in the Niki Alexander series by Laura Elvebak and read by Robin Rowan. She does an amazing job with the diverse characters of this book, changing her voice to suit each role. I read the first book in this series and loved it. It was wonderfully written and fast paced, plus true to the gritty vibe of the humid city of Houston. This time it kept me entertained and awake on my long drive. If you haven’t checked out this talented author, please do. You won’t be disappointed.

How safe are you?

IMG_9031FullSizeRender (22)

How safe are you? Memorial Day weekend I was promoting our first release, Daisy Dukes ‘n Cowboy Boots, at the Crawfish Festival in Fredericksburg, Texas. My 10×10 tent space was sandwiched between two awesome vendors, and it is the product of one of them I would like to discuss today.

I had never heard of Damsel in Defense before this event, and I was amazed at how many products they had to offer. Stun guns, concealed carry purses, pepper spray, and more. Their company is geared towards keeping women safe and in charge, but they offer more products that benefit men and children. Their series of children’s books help teach kids about sneaky people, who try to trick them into things that are not safe. Damsel in Defense reps say they try to tell the difference between secrets and surprises to keep children aware of unhealthy adult interactions. The days of Stranger Danger have evolved. Damsel in Defense realizes that most child abuse occurs between children and adults they know. Kevin, Lilly and Yvette worked diligently to advise women of how to protect themselves and encouraged them to be aware. They described their children’s books and games in detail, and I was sold on the importance of the book’s message right away. For men, they offered credit card safe wallets, hotel door stops, and key chain alarms.

They really believe in their product, but I knew they stood behind their concept when Kevin said, “If they don’t buy our product, it’s okay, just buy something to protect yourself.”

I whole heartedly agree. I heard women say they lived in a safe neighborhood, that they didn’t need protection, their husbands would protect them, and more. Let me share with you, I have been attacked multiple times in my life, and I am thankful that nothing severe has ever come of it. I personally know it can happen on a crowded street, in front of the grocery store door, in a cab, broken down on the side of the road, and the list goes on. Since I carry protection, I haven’t had a reason to use it, and I am very thankful. I don’t want to hurt anyone.

I second the appeal of the Damsel in Defense rep’s thoughts. This company makes great products, and I have bought several, but if you don’t buy theirs, buy something. Don’t be a victim.

These wonderful people offer group classes, and do speaking events. Please contact them or visit their website.
